Before you can write a letter, it is best to determine what type of letter you wish to write.  For example, do you want to write a business letter?  Or would you rather write a personal letter? How about a memo or a quick note? Different types of letters use different formats.

 Most letters begin with the date the letter was written and the person or people to whom it is addressed.
